Legal Director

The Opportunity: Peregrine Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Legal Director to lead the company’s legal function and serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. The Senior Legal Director will oversee legal matters across the organization, advise the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors, and provide strategic support throughout the development, construction, financing, and operation of Peregrine’s projects. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for an attorney who can balance legal risk with business priorities, develop scalable legal processes, and provide clear, practical guidance in a dynamic energy environment. Experience in battery energy storage systems, renewable energy, project development, or infrastructure is strongly preferred.

What You’ll Do: Lead and Scale the Legal Function Build and lead Peregrine’s internal legal function as the company grows. Develop scalable legal processes, contract templates, policies, and operating procedures. Establish appropriate controls, approval processes, and legal risk-management practices. Mentor and manage internal legal personnel and cross-functional teams, as appropriate. Advise Executive Leadership and the Board Serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors. Provide practical legal and business guidance on strategic initiatives, corporate transactions, operational matters, and risk management. Participate in executive decision-making and long-term corporate planning. Translate complex legal issues into clear options and actionable business recommendations. Lead Commercial Transactions Structure, draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements involving: Project development Engineering, procurement, and construction Equipment supply and procurement Project financing and investment Joint ventures and strategic partnerships Asset acquisitions and dispositions Operations and other commercial arrangements Partner with development, construction, finance, operations, and executive leadership to advance business objectives while appropriately managing legal and commercial risk. Coordinate third-party legal engagements and transaction-related outside counsel. Oversee Governance and Compliance Oversee corporate governance, entity management, and board-related matters. Develop and maintain company policies, compliance procedures, and internal controls. Advise leadership on regulatory, environmental, employment, and operational legal matters. Monitor applicable federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements. Manage Risk and Disputes Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks across the organization. Oversee litigation, claims, disputes, investigations, and other contested matters. Develop proactive strategies to minimize exposure and protect the company’s interests. Manage Outside Counsel Select, manage, and evaluate outside legal counsel. Determine which matters should be handled internally and which require external support. Oversee legal budgets, negotiate billing arrangements, and monitor outside counsel performance.

What You’ll Bring: J.D. from an accredited law school. Active bar membership in good standing. At least 10 years of legal experience, including significant commercial and transactional work. Substantial experience in energy, infrastructure, construction, project development, or a related industry. Strong negotiation, contract drafting, analytical, and communication skills. Executive presence and the ability to advise senior leaders on complex legal and business matters. Demonstrated ability to balance thoughtful risk management with commercial practicality. Experience working effectively across legal, development, construction, finance, and operations teams. A combination of major law firm and in-house legal experience is preferred.

Preferred Experience: Battery energy storage systems, renewable energy, distributed generation, or infrastructure development. Project finance, tax equity, or other capital transactions. EPC, construction, equipment supply, and procurement agreements. Corporate governance and board support. Regulatory matters, litigation, and dispute management.
