Complex Personal Injury Associate Attorney

Role Description: The Complex Personal Injury Associate Attorney will manage a caseload involving sexual assault and abuse, revenge porn, civil rights violations, and other serious personal injury claims. Candidates must have: At least three years of attorney experience working at a personal injury law firm in New York; Substantive New York personal injury litigation experience on either plaintiff or defense; and Experience preparing and trying personal injury cases in New York courts. This is a full-time, on-site position in the New York City metropolitan area. The associate will conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery demands and responses; and develop case strategies in collaboration with the firm’s partners. Responsibilities include interviewing clients and witnesses, gathering and evaluating evidence, working with expert witnesses, conducting and defending depositions, negotiating with opposing counsel and insurers, and preparing cases for mediation, settlement conferences, and trial. The attorney will make court appearances as needed and assist with client communications, case evaluations, and periodic intake assessments. Because the firm represents clients in sensitive and often traumatic matters, the successful candidate must provide compassionate, thorough, and trauma-informed representation.

Required Qualifications: A minimum of three years of attorney experience at a personal injury law firm in New York. This requirement is mandatory. Substantial New York personal injury litigation experience representing either plaintiffs or defendants. Personal injury trial experience in New York, including meaningful responsibility for trial preparation and courtroom proceedings. Commitment to client-centered, trauma-informed representation, professional ethics, and collaboration within a small, high-performing firm. Admission to practice law in New York and current good standing. A J.D. from an accredited law school. Strong command of New York personal injury law, practice, procedure, and court rules. Hands-on litigation experience, including drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, managing written discovery, taking and defending depositions, working with expert witnesses, negotiating settlements, and appearing in court. Excellent written and oral advocacy skills. Strong legal research and analytical abilities, with the capacity to synthesize statutes, regulations, and case law into persuasive arguments. Ability to manage a complex caseload, meet deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail. Applicants who do not have at least three years of experience practicing at a New York personal injury law firm and New York personal injury trial experience will not be considered.
