Corporate Estimator

Overview: Helix Traffic Solutions is seeking an experienced Corporate Estimator to support the development of accurate, competitive estimates and bids for roadway construction, temporary traffic control, work zone safety, and related services across the organization. This role will work closely with operating divisions, operations teams, contractors, vendors, and other internal stakeholders to evaluate project requirements, develop pricing, identify risks, and support successful project pursuits. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable independently managing the estimating process from plan review through bid submission. This position will play an important role in helping Helix pursue profitable opportunities while ensuring estimates accurately reflect project scope, costs, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities: Review construction plans, specifications, bid documents, and traffic control requirements to determine project scope and estimating requirements Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates, including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, logistics, and other project costs Prepare and submit bids for DOT, state, county, municipal, commercial, and private construction projects Analyze project plans and specifications to identify scope gaps, potential risks, and cost considerations Develop appropriate pricing and bid strategies based on project requirements, market conditions, and competitive factors Coordinate with Division Presidents, Branch Managers, Operations teams, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to gather project-specific information and validate estimating assumptions Attend pre-bid meetings and communicate with contractors and project stakeholders to clarify scope, requirements, and expectations Evaluate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production requirements to ensure estimates are complete and accurate Track submitted bids, maintain accurate estimating records, and follow up with contractors to obtain project status and market feedback Monitor labor, material, equipment, and market pricing to ensure estimates remain current and competitive Support operating divisions with estimating guidance, pricing information, and bid strategy as needed Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across the organization Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, bidding, or a related construction role Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and bid documents Experience developing construction cost estimates and preparing competitive bids Experience with roadway construction, traffic control, work zone safety, heavy civil, or a related construction environment Strong understanding of labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and project-related costs Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking when reviewing plans and specifications, identifying scope risks, and developing competitive bid strategies Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and the ability to work comfortably with financial and numerical data Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with teams across multiple locations and business units

Preferred Qualifications: Experience estimating temporary traffic control, work zone safety, roadway construction, or related services Experience with DOT, municipal, commercial, or private construction projects Experience working directly with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors Experience with estimating software or construction management systems Experience supporting multiple locations, divisions, or geographic markets Experience mentoring, coaching, or reviewing the work of other estimators
